Our lab is developing a new class of small molecules as antidepressants based on histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDACi’s). The new antidepressants are supposed to alleviated epigenetic modification-induced depressive symptoms. One way to measure the efficacy of an antidepressant in a mouse model is known as the Force Swim Test. In the video below, we perform this test on two mice, one of which has been treated with this novel antidepressant small molecule.
The mouse of the right (“A”) was treated with the compound while the one on the left (“D”) served as the control. As we can see, the mouse that was treated shows much more activity while the untreated mouse shows the lack of activity correlated with depression.
